How is diwali celebrated in india?

Here in Fiji islands, the hindus invite their non hindu friends and neighbors to their place at night for sweets and dinner. Is it the same in india?

I know that the main day of Diwali is the 3rd day, and I know why they celebrate it, but I don’t know the exact order of how they celebrate it, like first they cook the sweets, then the kids are let out of their homes and are allowed to play in the street, etc.

I’m doing a project and I need to know why Hindus eat certain sweets and the religious purpose it serves so please include a web site where i can obtain this info.

In Hindi religion.

in 2005, my cousin joined a new company. after i stopped writing him for a year and stopped calling him for nine months, he called me and started complaining. he told me i should write and call once in a while to catch up. when i sent him my email address, he replied "this is my office email and we can catch up once in a while." a few months later, i wrote to him when i tried calling him. last year, he came to america, but he didnt come visit me. i went there. he told me he is not allowed access to photos. i only wrote to him when he asked me to. this year, i wrote to him for holi. he came to visit me with his wife and 2 sons for a week. he told me i can write to him once twice a month letting him know what i’m doing. i wrote to him for india’s in dependence day, and he replied in two minutes and said "great to hear from you." then i called him for raksha bandhan. when i told him who was calling, then he said "Hi." when i wished him a happy raksha bandhan, he said "thanks a lot, you too." i wrote to him on his office email for diwali and he replied "Hi, good to hear from you and thanks for remembering us on this auspicious occasion. sending ,greetings, best wishes and hope you too have lots of sweets and fun…..regards to buiji. cheeers

how do i know if my cousin means it and wants me to write to him, or is he just saying it to be nice?

during his visit, he gave up a day to check on his kids while they were during their homework so he could spend some time with me. my mom sent me out for some shopping, and my cousin came with me. can someone give me their honest feedback on this?

how do i do without feeling bad?

i had family come visit me from india.. i wrote to my cousin for the occassion of diwali.. and he replied "good to hear from you and thanks for remembering us on this auspicious occasion. sending ,greetings, best wishes and hope you too have lots of sweets and fun…..regards to buiji. cheeers.

since he wrote cheeers, is that a sign that he is happy? he also called me..

i want to stop writing but i would feel bad because they came down to visit coz they want me to remember them..they visited for a week and they went throuhg so much trouble..

pls tell me what i can do and how i can stop feeling bad..

here is a question: since diwali is next tuesday, i wrote to four of my cousins in india. so far, three of them replied. one of them said "Thanks. WISH YOU A VERY HAPPY DIWALI." another one said "thank a lot for the good wishes. hope you have a joyous and prosperity diwali. enjoy yourself and burst a lot of crackers." the other one said "good to hear from you and thanks for remembering us on this auspicious occassion. sending greetings, best wishes, and hope you too have lots of sweets and fun. rgds to bui. cheeers. is there a way of know if a cousin likes me more than others. the way i see it, only one of them really has a connection with me.

also, could u give me ur opinion on this as well. when my cousin came to visit, his wife was helping the kids with their homework. my cousin and i were up in my room chatting and catching up. one of the kids was misbehaving. when i asked him if he should go see what the problem was, my cousin’s reply was "he’ll get in trouble. I’m surprised. does that mean spending time and chatting with me was more important to him than checking on his kids? please give me ur opinion

here is an answer: Writing your cousins in India is forging relationships with them. This is a great way to know them and keep in touch and
Yes at the time it was more important to him. He probably disciplines his children all of the time, but he doesn’t get to spend time with you
what does forging relationships mean?

The very name of this festival ‘Deepavali’ suggests the meaning of this festival. It is all about the light coming out of a tiny diya that is called ‘Deep’ in Hindi. Later the term ‘Deepawali’ became ‘Divali’. Deepawali or Diwali is also known as ‘the festival of lights’ because on this day there is light and light everywhere. Diwali is celebrated usually in the month of October or November.

Diwali falls on the day of ‘Amavasyaa’ when the moon does not rise and there is darkness all around. Light, being symbol of hope and positive things, indicates the victory of good over evil. And by spreading light in every corner of our premises we try to destroy the reign of darkness on the night of diwali.

It is a tradition to light our homes and offices on diwali. People decorate their premises with diyas, electric bulbs series and other decorative electric items to make their surroundings filled with colorful light and to make it bright and beautiful. After all the ultimate beauty created by lighting all over is the main feature that makes this festival unique.

Divali Significance

Dipavali is the Indian festival that brings a series of festivals with it. One after another we get a chance to celebrate five festivals together. The people of all age groups and classes with equal zeal and enthusiasm celebrate Diwali throughout India. They put on new apparels and participate in the various activities that are related to Diwali celebrations.

Diwali is not only a festival of celebrations such as lightings, crackers, cleanliness, colorful rangoli making, social gatherings to exchange greetings and sharing sweets with your loved ones but it is also a festival that is filled with spiritualism and religious activities such as worship of Goddess Lakshmi, worship of Lord Ganesha, worship of Mother Kali, worship of Lord Chitragupta and worship of Govardhan Parvat. The Diwali festival is all about lots of shopping, happiness, togetherness and almost one week’s holiday.

The celebration of the five-day long festival, diwali begins on Aswayuja Bahula Chaturdashi and concludes on Kartika Shudha Vijaya. The first day of this festival begins with ‘Dhan Trayodashi’ or ‘Dhanteras’. After the Dhanvantari Trayodashi the second day of diwali is ‘Narak Chaturdashi’, which is popular as ‘Chhoti Diwali’. The third day of diwali, which is also called ‘Badi Diwali’ is the main day of celebrations of the festival of diwali. People perform Lakshmi Pujan (worship of divine Goddess Lakshmi) on this day and offer prayers to Her to bless them with wealth and prosperity. The fourth day of diwali is devoted to Govardhan Pooja (worship of Lord Govardhan Parvat). The fifth day of the diwali is Bhai Dooj, the time to honour the brother-sister relationship.

The day of Dipavali has special significance for the business community as they consider this day to be the perfect time to begin their new financial year. Some people also indulge in gambling on the day of diwali because it is a believed that wife of Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati played dice with Him on this day and therefore those, who gamble on this auspicious day, are blessed with prosperity.
