And then, back we will visit family, friends, enemy etc. Our traditions are new clothes, open house, duit raya ( gift in money ) etc. This year is third years we celebrate together with Hindus because Deepavali at same week with Eid ul Fitr. Eid at Malaysia is something very pleasant becos we will celebrate it for one month ( hehehe… that why Muslim at Malaysia like to celebrate all celebration with their friends either Muslim or non ).
My boyfriend is in USA with me and he is Hindu from Nepal. I would like to surprise him and do a small celebration for him since his whole family is in Nepal. Any suggestions/ recipes? Even if he is Nepalese he would celebrate it the same way as long as he is Hindu right? Anyway I want to surprise him with a bit of home. What can I do??
I hope Indians at YA could answer some of my questions pertaining to Deepavali celebration.
(a) what are the rituals ( in sequence if possible ) on the eve and on Deepavali day and their significances ?
(b) i know it is about celebrating good ( Lord Krishna ) over evil ( what’s his name ), perhaps some information about both of them and maybe a pic of Lord Krishna
(c) what is the name of the costume worn by men ( the white sarong like ) on Deepavali ?
(d) what are the type of foods served during Deepavali
(c) i know Deepavali is celebrated over a 5 days period and each day has it’s significance and rituals , what are they ?
i hope someone would answer from his/her own experience not from Wikipedia or other websites. Thank you and to all Hindus , HAPPY DEEPAVALI

In India, one of the most significant festivals is Diwali, or the Festival of Lights. It’s a fiveday celebration that includes good food, fireworks, colored sand, and special candles and lamps.
Well, I’m from India and we’re celebrating Diwali today – the festival of lights. I’d like to know what people of other cultures think about this festival and if they celebrate it. (Cause i just read in the paper that Obama lighted candles in White House as an expression of celebration)
Just an early wish for a pleasant good time with family and friends…
Do you guys still remember the significance of this festival of lights? How many of you actually fast and perform rituals prior to this celebration? Do you remember how your parents/grandparents way of celebrating it?
I am a writing an essay about the holiday Diwali. I am not Hindu nor Indian so I don’t celebrate Diwali and I want to express how it feels to celebrate Diwali in the attention grabber. Something like fireworks light up the sky and rangolis welcome me to a place of celebration. Something like that, but something strong. Thanks for your help!
