Hindu Festival – Diwali
Diwali is probably the most famous of all Hindu festivals that we know of. It symbolizes the rows of lights which is why it is celebrated with lights, fireworks and the like including diyas. Diyas are a type of oil lamp. Diwali lasts for about five days and is among the Navratri which are nine holy nights, celebrated for the success of good over evil. It symbolizes the victory of Lord Rama and the defeat of Ravana; it is also celebrated in the memory of Sita’s (wife of Lord Rama) rescue from Ravana. Diwali is celebrated with much zeal and enthusiasm by Hindus across the globe. Diwali is celebrated according to the position of moon therefore the celebration dates vary from location to location.
